For now, the 2024 participants compete in the qualifying round, and Adam Suska has already performed. Those allowed into the qualifying rounds were selected from a group of almost 300 applying young musicians.

The next stage will be the semi-finals, where 24 violinists will appear in front of the jury and the audience again next week. 12 best will be selected for the final round - and the competition's winner will be revealed on June 1.

The Queen Elisabeth Competition is the oldest event of its kind in Belgium. Since its foundation, it has been considered one of the most challenging and prestigious competitions for instrumentalists globally - and in 1957 it was one of the founding members of the World Federation of International Music Competitions.

The Queen Elisabeth Competition is currently organised in one of five categories each year: violin, piano, composition, singing and cello - with the leading discipline changing on an annual basis.

The Polish winners of the competition included: Michał Spisak (composition, 1st prize: 1953 and 1957), Andrzej Czajkowski (piano, 3rd prize 1956), Aga Wińska (singing, 1st prize 1988), Iwona Sobotka (singing, 1st prize 2004), Bernadetta Grabias (singing, 3rd prize 2008) and Mateusz Borowiak (piano, 3rd prize 2013).

Gdańsk-born Adam Suska is a laureate of numerous prestigious awards, including: II prize in 15th International Violin Competition - K. Lipiński and H. Wieniawski (2021), Grand Prix Opus Competition, (2021) III prize in EuroAsia Competition Tokio (Japan, 2021) and Grand Prix Virtuoso & Belcanto Competition Lucca (Italy, 2021 and 2022).

He is the recipient of scholarships from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the J. Semkow Foundation, the National Children's Fund, the President of the City of Gdańsk - and many more.
